NEWS
I'm preparing for a new CD: revising songs following the sage advice of Sue Ennis, and creating sheet music and tabs for all my songs, which also I intend to publish.
I'm also gearing up for a few shows in Oregon and a mini-tour of Eastern Washington in June.
Last but not least, my friend Loren Pogue, who has served 17 years in prison for a so-called crime he didn't even commit, will finally be released from prison in June!

The Name Thistle
People often ask "Why did you choose the name 'Thistle' ?"
When I was a young girl, my mother would sometimes task me with removing thistles from the garden behind our house. I worked very hard to pull them out, and found that the only way was to get a sharp tool and cut out their roots. Only weeks later, I would find new plants growing in the same spot.
The thistles infuriated me at first, but I grew to respect their tenacity. I found the thistle to be an inspiring symbol of determination, and in particular, the will to grow deep roots and thrive in a new environment. These particular plants, I learned, are the species cirsium arvense, also know as the Canadian Thistle. They came to North America from Europe with early settlers, so like me, they are transplanted.
For these reasons I chose the Thistle as my namesake. I invite anyone who wishes to share this symbol to also share the name and be part of the "Thistle" family.
